Church Tonight Labels: church, losangeles, spiritual
And... after unpacking my groceries, I still managed to visit a church tonight.
I went to the evening service of Mosaic , which meets in downtown Los Angeles at The Mayan Nightclub .
Yes, it is one of those churches that rent out a nightclub on Sunday night.
Walking in, it was so weird walking passed the bar with the stale alcohol smell from the nightclub last night.
They had alot of good rock music for worship, but the crowd was very young. I think in a few weeks I might check out the morning service they have in Beverly Hills instead.
Quiet Sunday
Very quiet lay-ed back Sunday... and I don't have to many of those.
I am always looking for a good church in Los Angeles that has evening services.
That way I can stay out late on Saturday, sleep in on Sunday - and still make it to church.
There is a Catholic Church on Vine ...or is it Rossmore once it is South of Melrose - I always drive passed - So tonight I went to Catholic Mass at Christ The King .
I consider myself Presbyterian - but every now and then its nice to go visit some place different.
The church was beautiful inside. And outside they were having a Family Fair of some kind.
After Mass, I drove to the Larchmont Area - and stopped off for dinner at Koo Koo Roo.
I was about 3 months behind on my Prevention Magazine subscription.
So I sat and read, and got caught up.

Happy Easter
On Easter Sunday, I know how important it is to get to Church early.
Mainly to find a parking place.
So I told myself I would get there at 10 minutes before the service started.
Well, I was 5 minutes late to Hollywood Presbyterian .
Because I was late, I had to sit way up in the balcony - because the rest of the church was full.
Part of the reason I was late, was trying to figure out what to wear.
The weather has been so weird - and for Easter Sunday it was pretty cold.
To cold for a Easter-y floral sundress.
So what to wear ?
In my closet was a dress I bought on the Internet nearly two years ago. In the catalog, it looked sexy enough for a night out.
But when it arrived it wasn't sexy, and it was actually kind of weird looking.
I thought the color was going to be cranberry from the catalog - but its a weird dark mauve/fuchsia shade - a color that I don't think I have ever seen before.
Plus, on top there are a few black sequins.
I only kept it because it fit me. But I can never figure out where to wear it.
So I finally decided to wear it to church. The weird mauve fuchsia color is fine for Easter.
As for the black sequins - well, this is Hollywood. I can get away with sequins in church.
So I sat up in the balcony, and it was a lovely service.
The Cathedral Choir sang a selection from Puccini's "Gloria" .
The Mass Choir sang "O, The Blood" .
And the Cathedral Bells performed - which I just loved.
If you ever get to hear a performance by a Bells Choir, I recommend it. It is all bells of every size and tone, and it just beautiful.

Maundy Thursday
First here's a link explaining Maundy Thursday .
In a nutshell, it is the day to remember The Last Supper, Garden of Gethsemane, the Washing of the Disciples Feet and the betrayal of Christ by Judas .
So, we are remembering the things Jesus did before he was taken to be crucified.
The term "Maundy" is a rough translation of a Latin and Old French word, that basically means "A New".
As in "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you"
In the past when I have visited Catholic church, the Mass for Maundy Thursday is very long. Presbyterian keep it at a regular service length.
I went over to Hollywood Presbyterian .
Two beautiful songs were sung tonight:
"Seekers of Your Heart" by Mel & Dick Tunney & Beverly Darnall
Because your heart was broken
Because You saw the need
Because You gave so freely
Because of Calvary
We can now be Called your own
Complete creations Filled with You alone
and
Where You There ?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Books I Am Reading
Signs and Wonders by Albert Clayton Gaulden . Its a book about learning to hear God, and knowing how God speaks to us.
and ... The Dalai Lama .....
I have been listening to "Advice on Dying and Living a Better Life as a book on tape. It is about Buddhist techniques for mastering the fear of death and finding spiritual enlightenment.
Wishing You A Blessed Ash Wednesday
![]() | I attended the evening Ash Wednesday service at Hollywood Presbyterian Church It was a beautiful service that included communion. I think its wonderful that more Protestant denominations are celebrating Lent, and especially Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. |

Evening in Studio City
In the evening, I drove out to CBS Studios in Studio City for MFI International Fellowship .
Their guest speaker tonight was Doug Jones . He plays Pan and The Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth .
I was very interested to hear him speak, because I had just seen Pan's Labyrinth a week and a half ago.
I had wanted to see it ever since I had volunteered for the sold-out midnight show at the AFI Film Fest .
Doug Jones has a website, The Doug Jones Experience .
There are alot of great pictures of his appearances on here.
After that, I needed to stop off at the Trader Joe's that is across the street from CBS.
I was out of the Trader Joe's Decaf Chai Green Tea. And its my favorite.

Church, Gossip and the Internet
I drove to Bel Air Presbyterian Church . I took Sunset straight down ...and its quite a ways.
Plus I got lost ...twice ...
I think the Mapquest directions were alittle old.
I was all confused because the online directions said from Sunset to make a right on Sepulveda - and it doesn't work.
From Sunset ... you have to go north on Church Street.... then make a left on Sepulveda.
I finally made it - and entire hour late.
The church inside is beautiful. And it was packed with people, standing room only.
I stood at the back. Someone finally left because the service was almost over - and I got to sit down.
After the church service, there was a meeting of their "Beacon" group.
This is the church group for people in the entertainment business.
Scott Fish from Freeze Frame Entertainment was the guest speaker, and I really enjoyed the topic.
He shared about his history being a Manager in the entertainment biz.
But he also touched on something I think I need to deal with .. Gossip.
I don't mean gossip about people whom you know, with other people who know them too.
I try my best not to get into that already.
But those Celebrity Gossip Magazines and websites ... oh, I can spend hours looking at those.
When the latest mishap occurs with some Celeb, I am picking up the latest tabloid at the Grocery store.
And lets face it - its really not news. Unless someone dies, or does something that lands them in jail - what purpose does it serve except to entertain at someone else's expense.
And in my opinion, it just seems to foster more bad behavior on the people who want the attention.
And alot of the time, those Gossip rags are just making it all up anyway.
Its not a very productive way to spend one's time. If I want to be entertained, there are other more positive ways to go about that.
For instance, I have been enjoying some of the Acting Groups that post their comedy skits on You Tube .
And there are some musicians that post "open mike nights" where you can see them perform.
I love the fact that the internet has made it possible that all these struggling actors and musicians, can just post a video and be seen by thousands of people.
