Looking For Mr Goodbar
Went to a screening of Looking for Mr. Goodbar from 1977.
over at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
This is a movie with some really serious subject matter. And I wanted to see if for
Diane Keaton's performance.
Its hard to believe that Diane Keaton won the Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Actress, but she wasn't even nominated for an Oscar.
It was probably due to the subject matter.
She won for Annie Hall instead.
There is some interesting information on the movie at Wikipedia.
The book and movie are based on the true story about Roseann Quinn .
There is alot of talk on the internet as to exactly what the name "Goodbar" in the title refers to.
One other thing in the movie perplexed me as well.
Was it common for people to bring books to bars, and sit and read ?
I know now we have Starbucks, and people go to coffee shops to read.
A Bar seems like a strange place to read a book - its dark and noisy.
Maybe it was just a thing that the character did to get attention.
Or maybe people really did that in the 70s...

Friday Way to Late
So I didn't get out of Spider-man 3 until nearly 3 am.
Way to late for this old girl.
I had already arranged to take Friday off as a vacation day.
Due to all the excitement, and the late dinner, I was awake until 5 am.
Then I ended up sleeping until 3 pm.
Except for my landlady knocking on my door at Noon wondering why I hadn't taken my newspaper in.
She apologized, said she worried when she saw the paper was still out on my doorstep.
So now it is 3pm, and wow - is my system off.
Groggy - and coffee didn't help.
I had already made plans with Los Angeles People Connection , to meet up at
Fox and Hounds in Studio City.
No drinking for me... I stuck to regular cola.
And I got a chicken pot pie for dinner - or is it still lunch at 9pm. Whichever, it was really good.
A cover band started to play, and the music was really good.
All English Rock and Roll.
It was a very fun night.
I was waking up, just as it was time to leave.

Spiderman-3
12:01 midnight ... okay, thats kind of confusing...
12:01 midnight of Thursday May 3... is actually the same as 12:01 in the morning of Friday May 4.
The tickets and the show-time listings on the internet were actually alittle confusing.
First, I met my friends (2 other women, and 1 guy) at The Bowery on
Sunset Blvd for the latest dinner I have ever had in my entire life.
My system was so off, that I ordered something I don't ever eat, I don't like, and its totally unhealthy because its a scavenger ... Beer Battered Shrimp.
I took a few bites, and I couldn't finish it...
I am sure it was good. It was just that my stomach did not know what it wanted at 11:00 pm at night.
My friends and I all had our tickets, and The Arclight Cinema is assigned seating.
And we all got our seats together.
While my friends were off doing something else, I got into the Concession stand line.
I was the only single woman in the concession stand line.
It was pretty much 90% men, and they were all looking at me.
It was way to funny.
Who would have thought the concession stand line at the first screening for Spiderman would be a good pick-up joint?
Nevertheless, I was in a rush to get my food and get back to my seats.
When I got back to my seat, I told my friends what the concession stand was like.
And one friend - she is much younger than me - said "Yeah, it is a Sausage-fest in here".
Okay - thats the first time I ever heard that term.
Just before Spiderman-3 started, a young guy - who looked like an Arclight employee except her was wearing a Cap on his head - walked up to the microphone.
He started to read from a piece of paper: "Thank you for choosing Arclight Cinemas, We hope you enjoy this screening of Spiderman-3 ... please remember to turn off all cell-phone and pagers..."
Half-way through the introduction speech, the audience realized that the person doing the reading was none other than Tobey Maguire ....
And everyone started to cheer !
Tobey Maquire stood off to the side with about 20 other people - and they stayed for about the first 30 minutes of Spider-man 3.
My friends and I had a great time. But I was so caught up in the actually event of the 12:01 screening, that I am probably going to have to go see Spiderman-3 a second time....
Here are some Spiderman-3 pictures, taken around the Arclight Cinema:

Stress !!!
I had to make a Doctors Appointment today to talk about ... Stress !!!!
I can't even write about my Stress!!! without adding the explanation points at the end.
I was very concerned because on two occasions I have had slight heart palpitations when thinking about my stressful situations.
And about four times I have had insomnia. And I have never had insomnia in my entire life.
He recommended a Behavioral Therapist ... okay, like I can find the Time to go !!!
(More explanation points.)
He said "I can give you a prescription for something to help you sleep, but most of those can be addicting."
He recommended Tylenol PM for the insomnia.
But, as he said it "Now, I know you don't like to take any Medications, so you might want to try Melatonin or Valerian Root for the insomnia. These are both natural things you can try."
I LUV my doctor !!! He actually recommends holistic alternatives.
Here's the thing... Most nights I can fall asleep fine. But I do need something to make me sleepy some of the time.
But usually by the time I realize I am not falling asleep, it is way beyond that 8 hour period that is recommended before you use the sleep products.
What I need is this: a pill where I will feel like I have had a full 8 hours of sleep - but only within 4 hours of actually sleeping.
Whoever invents that will make a fortune.
Books I Am Reading
As far as books go, I prefer history, biographies, self-help and religion.
But as far a religion and self-help go, I like to keep it somewhat mainstream.
I am a member of a Presbyterian church, and I just like to keep things that way.
But alot of people I know starting to recommend the Abraham books to me.
Abraham is a non-physical entity who gives these ideas to
Esther Hicks and Jerry Hicks.
And do I have trouble accepting advise from a Non-physical Entity ?
Yes, I do.
I think its alittle strange, and not the path I choose to follow.
But so many people where saying how great these books are.
And I open-minded enough, that I think I can read something and pick out what I need and leave the rest.
So from the Los Angeles Public Library I checked out:
The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent
The Law of Attraction
and
Ask and It Shall Be Given
And yes, the books were good. There were alot of self-help tips in there.
And alot of what was said in the book makes alot of sense.
Alot of it just strikes me at Positive Thinking.
And I really do believe that its true - how you think and what you think, will make a big difference in your life.
I personally prefer the book "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale .
This is a classic self-help, positive thinking book.
And Norman Vincent Peale bases his positive thinking on The Bible.
And for me, The Bible stands the test of time - more than that of a "non physical entity".
The Abraham books have some good ideas, and I think alot of people could benefit from the ideas. I personally just won't get caught up in what or whom they say is behind the ideas.

Sunday in Toluca Lake
Volunteered at Falcon Theatre this afternoon.
For the play, "Balancing Act".
It was the second time I have seen it.
Yeardley Smith is so funny in it.
After that, it was time to run errands.
I went to Marie Callender's and had a wonderful dinner.
Chicken with Mushrooms and Artichokes.
The portion was so huge, it was three servings - so I took some home for lunch at the office tomorrow.
I had actually been craving artichokes lately. And whenever I buy them, I don't seem to get around to cooking them.
Artichokes are a difficult vegetable to prepare.
So this was a perfect dinner... It satisfied my artichoke craving.
Then I ran into Trader Joes . The one on Riverside Drive is actually pretty small.
But I got most of what I needed. Especially my two favorites, the Organic Cranberry Juice, and Organic Decaf Chai Tea.
Then I realized on my way out, that Trader Joes has a monthly drawing.
If you bring your own grocery bag, they will enter you in a drawing for a free gift certificate.
I have to remember to bring my own bags in the future.
The only thing I noticed ... Our weather has been really weird lately.
We have had really blazing hot days, and then today seemed to cool down a bit.
But at both Marie Callender's and Trader Joes - the air conditioning was turned up to a bone-freezing chill.
At the restaurant, I had to ask to change tables, because one side of the restaurant was so cold. And where I ended up sitting - I was still cold.
Then I hurried through Trader Joes because it was so cold there to.
And it wasn't just me - believe me, it was freezing cold in both places.
I wonder if it was because it was just so warm outside, and no one adjusted the temperature once the weather started to cool off for the evening.
