Raining Cats and Frogs
Further proof that I am not a Grown-up.
I just loved the movie "Raining Cats and Frogs" directed by Jacques-Remy Girerd .
Its an animated French movie, about a Noah & The Ark type of situation.
All the animals, both herbivores and carnivores, learn not to fight or eat eachother.
They all live in perfect harmony. While eating potatoes.
I don't know how realistic it is. I mean, Lions and Tigers are made to eat meat.
But it is a nice thought, that we humans can apply on so many different levels.
Its not just about vegetarianism, but about how we treat eachother.
And its a very cute movie with very cute animated animals.
More Short Films
At The Egyptian Theatre for "Dangerous Visions: Animated Shorts for connoisseurs and Grown-ups".
And since I don't consider myself a Grown-up, I decided to be Volunteer Captain for the evening. Which meant I didn't go in to watch the movies. Instead I stayed in the lobby and helped the Patrons and Theatre Staff for the evening.
Short Films by Los Filmmakers
Volunteered over at The Egyptian Theatre for "Los Angeles' True Local Heroes".
An evening of Short films by local Los Angeles Filmmakers.
Treo Commercial Audition
Drove out to West LA for an audition for a commercial for the Palm Treo .
First I took Olympic almost all the way straight down.
And I know the area - I used to work around there for years.
Its near Olympic - between Sawtelle and Barrington.
But try to find parking.....
There are lots of businesses and industrial type places in those little side streets.
I finally parked on Olympic, closer to Barrington.
And practically ran to my audition, about 4 blocks.
They were very organized. And I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes.
Well, thats pretty much because all I had to do was walk across the room.
I was told to come as a "Tourist", bringing maps and a camera or other "tourist-y" looking props.
When I got there, none of the other actors had any props.
So I took my camera off from around my neck and put it in my purse.
The Casting Assistant saw me and said "I noticed some of you brought props - so if you could please get those."
I was back up in front - with three different guys, all doing a different characters.
Business man, Construction Worker ... the usual.
The Casting Assistant said "First I am going to ask you to Slate."
One of the actors raised his hand "What does that mean ? Slate?"
I looked at the floor.
Okay, this is why you take acting classes.
So you know these basic things.
And if a non-actor reading this wants to know:
A Slate is right before your scene or commercial. You look towards the camera and say "Hi, my name is Donna Grayson" Or just "Donna Grayson" ... and then you smile and look friendly.
And then you do a Profile...turn to the right, turn to the left , then face to the front and smile pretty again.
This is very basic. Any actor going on Commercial Auditions should know this.
If that actor's agent knew that this guy asked the Casting Assistant what a Slate was - well, at the very least he would be really embarrassed.
Thats not good.
So I did my thing. Walked across the room being a Tourist, snapping pictures and looking at my map, while the Casting Associate taped me.
Then we all did a closing Slate. And it was time to go home.
Little Big Shot
An evening with child actress Sybil Jason at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
The movies was "Little Big Shot" from 1935.
Also two Technicolor shorts, "The Changing Of The Guard" and "A Day At Santa Anita" (both from 1937).
Studio 60 Premier
Was I the only one really looking forward to the Studio 60 premier ?
Maybe it is because they are shooting some of the scenes in the building where I work.
Every time there was an outdoor scene, I was trying to figure out where they were.
And if the background behind them was really how it looks in Real Life.
Either way, I love the show.
And Matthew Perry is way darn cute.
West Hollywood Bookfair
Headed over to the West Hollywood Bookfair .
Parking was at The Pacific Design Center .
I was taking pictures, and the Guard stopped me.
"You can't take pictures here."
His entire job was walking around stopping people with cameras.
Even tourists. So considering that the Pacific Design Center is a very famous place, it must be a full-time job to stop people from taking pictures.
At the West Hollywood Bookfair , we heard Tommy Chong talk about his new book,
The I Chong: Meditations from the Joint .
Organic to Go was one of the vendors. I had one of their delicious sandwiches for lunch.
And somehow I managed to NOT buy any books.
I check anything I want to read out at the Library . Tommy Chong talks about his new book Pacific Design Center Pacific Design Center Pacific Design Center
Brunch in Santa Monica
Attended a lovely Brunch at the Le Merigot Hotel and Spa in Santa Monica.
This wonderful hotel had invited the volunteers from The American Cinematheque to have a delicious brunch at their hotel.
We had a wonderful time. And the food was wonderful.
It is such a beautiful hotel.
Its amazing - if someone had not told me it was there, I never would have known.
A lovely place to visit, with a wonderful restaurant.
