The LA County Fair

I spent a wonderful and exciting day at The L.A. County Fair .
The drive didn't take that long from Hollywood at all - I think we made it in about 40 minutes.

First, we got one of those big collectors mugs that they sell. You buy one, and then you can get it refilled for like 2 bucks at most of the Food places. You can get it refilled with lemonade or soda, all day long.

Then, near the Cow area, we got the delicious ice cream. My eyes were bigger than my stomach - I ordered like three scoops in a huge cone. It was gigantic, and I couldn't finish it all. I don't eat alot of milk products, but the ice cream they sell there is the best - especially the Berry flavor.

We had to go see all the Farm Animals.
Something I don't get to see living in Hollywood - cows, pigs, sheep, goats.
I wish the Fair had more horses, because I love looking at the Horses.

I also wish there was some way via the internet that we bloggers could get across the SMELL of an event.
Walking around all those farm animals, the smell was something I haven't experienced since the last time I was at the Fair - about 3 years ago.
There was one area where the pigs were just so stinky I couldn't even go near them.

Anyone reading this, is probably very happy that I can't make SMELL come across the internet. LOL!

After we were done walking around all the Cute Stinky Farm Animals - I told my friends I had to throw-out my collectors cup.
My one friend collects one every time she goes, like once a year.
I was carrying that cup around all those stinky farm animals - and having had Cancer last year anything like that scares me.
I thought of all the microscopic germs that jumped on the straw.
My friends said "Well, wash it."
I was like "No I can't even deal with the thought."

We next got in line to get the free tickets to see "Heart".
"Heart" was playing at the Free Concert that evening.
We had to get in line at the little ticket booth an hour before they started to give out the tickets - and we were about the 20th people in line.
So we waited in the hot sun for an hour for our tickets to see " "Heart".

And we chatted with the nice family in front of us, and the older Rock & Roll Couple behind us.
My friend carried on an interesting discussion with the Rock couple, who looked close to being in their 60s.
They discussed the entire history of Rock & Roll radio in Los Angeles, naming the Disc Jockeys and the Radio Stations that no longer exist.
Since I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, I have no idea what or who they were talking about.

Once we got our Concert tickets, we set out to find a nice lunch.
The LA County Fair gets alot of attention for selling "Artery-clogging Fried Everything", but it is possible to find a nice meal.
Its amazing what they sell at the fair - Fried asparagus, Fried Onion Blossoms - these were some of the healthier choices I saw. I've read about weird things like Deep-Fried Oreo Cookies, to a new sandwich they have where they put a hamburger
between two Krisby Creme donuts and deep fry it.
Off we went to find something semi-healthy.
So we headed over to where all the Cute Farm Animals were - because thats where they were selling all the yummy barbecue.

We almost got the gigantic Turkey Legs, with BBQ corn on the cob.
But we saw there was a BBQ place that had nice picnic tables in a shady spot.
And after walking around all day, and standing in the long ticket line for an hour - that looked like the place to be.
The meals consisted of a BBQ meat with cole slaw, baked beans and corn bread.
The Pork ribs were huge. Once again, there I was eating something I swore off due to the Cancer.
First, Ice Cream, Now Pork.

As I ate it, it was delicious.
And I remembered something I heard about American Indians who pray for the Meat when they eat it.
So I said a silent prayer in my head, thanking God for the pig that gave his life so I could have delicious pork ribs.
It made me feel better about eating a "questionable cancer food" - and it definitely made me feel better about all those cute little pigs who had just posed for my digital camera and did not know I was now eating their friend.
I am such a City Person.

After we were done relaxing at our picnic table in the shade, it was time to walk around the buildings that sell everything under the sun.
We had 2 hours to kill before the "Heart" concert.

I can't believe all the stuff the sell there. But even more, I can't believe some of those Sellers don't have a Website so you can go buy their stuff on line.
There was a place selling fantastic Halloween Costumes. But they only sold at the Fair. No store, No website. I wasn't about to buy something where I wasn't sure how I could possibly return it.
Usually at sellers like that, I like to collect their business cards. And look them up later.
But there are people who go to the fair with huge shopping carts - and they buy and buy and buy.

We stopped for a while at a Cooking Demonstration about some fancy cookware.
They guy doing the demonstration was really into alternative health.
And he was talking about the wonders of "Coconut Oil" - using it in cooking and on your skin.
He was reading from The Coconut Oil Miracle by Bruce Fife and Jon J. Kabara ,
and telling us of all the health benefits of coconut oil, and how it can help many diseases, including cancer.
I made a mental note to look up more on the internet later.

Funny, in the wealth of toxic food at the LA County Fair - I find the one Holistic Guy.

Then it was time to head on over to the " "Heart" concert.
Yes, we had to wait in line another hour. But this time it was getting cool.
We were up in the bleachers - it is a Free concert.
But everyone there was having a wonderful time listening to the music.
Some of the people in front of us were die-hard "Heart" fans, and knew every song. They sang along and danced so much that the security guard had to tell them to sit down.
Ok, maybe they were alittle drunk - but they just as entertaining to watch as the concert.

Finally, it was time to go home. I think we managed to be there close to 14 hours.
Walking back to the parking lot, I stopped at some of the arcade games. On one of the coin-toss games, I managed to win two little stuffed animals.

It was a very fun and eventful day at The L.A. County Fair .

Below are some pictures from the day. If you would like to see more pictures, I have a Set on Flickr, just click here :

Final Dress Rehearsal of A Musical

Free tickets to see the final dress rehearsal of a Big Broadway-type musical. At a large theatre in Los Angeles with seating around 500.
I just loved the music. It was such an amazing professional, top-notch production.

Well, I guess this is what you get when you go to the "Final" dress rehearsal :
The Director came out, and gave a little speech. He said it was a "rehearsal", so if something went wrong and he had to stop the performance then he would.
Even though the theatre was full - about 500 theatre-goers, all given free tickets to the final dress rehearsal.

Everything was going wonderfully.
Then one of the actresses came out in a gorgeous vintage floor-length evening gown.
The entire audience was amazed at how beautiful she looked.
She was alone on stage, and singing a beautiful solo love song.
The spotlight hit her...
and oh, no ....

I turned to my friend "Can you see through her dress?"
My friend nodded.
Other people turned to their friends and whispered.

With the Spotlight hitting the vintage evening gown, you could see right through her dress.
And she wasn't wearing any underwear !
So she was pretty much ..... Naked !

Everyone started to giggle alittle.
At first, you could tell the actress was alittle puzzled.
But people stopped giggling.
So the actress went on to sing her beautiful solo.

The people behind me started to giggle again.
I had to look at the floor to stop from giggling, because the people behind me were making me laugh.

I was so glad when her beautiful solo was over.
I felt so embarrassed for the actress.

As we were leaving, my friends and I commented:
"That was the wardrobe departments fault ! They should have known a thin vintage gown would be transparent in a spotlight ! She should have been wearing a slip underneath!"
The people leaving with us turned around and agreed.

I was perplexed as to why the Director didn't stop the performance, like he said he would.
Maybe he didn't realize his actress was naked ?
Or maybe he was to embarrassed to do anything about it ?
I was curious, thinking I would like to go back to see the musical again - just to see if they covered the actress up for the rest of the performances !
