Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Yes, after yesterday - I ran out to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
Well, I have to say I went over to The Grove , very late in the evening.
I think it was a 11 pm screening.
I never go that late, but the rest of the day was busy.
The Grove was really crowded at that time of night.
Johnny Depp is so amazing as Captain Jack Sparrow.
And the special effects and makeup they used on Bill Nighy, was just amazing.
Still Crazy
Tonight, The Egyptian Theatre was showing one of the movies in my "All Time Favorite - Top Ten List":
Still Crazy from 1998.
Its a hysterically funny movie about a Rock Band from the 1970s who re-unite.
And one of my favorite actors, Bill Nighy, was doing a Q&A after the movie tonight.
I was there taking tickets. And Bill Nighy came in with one of the Staff members, who was telling him that the Cinematheque was a non-profit organization, and that we were all volunteers.
Well, Bill Nighy came up and introduced himself to each one of us and shook our hands.
He was so nice and friendly. Very much old Hollywood charm !
Then after the movie and after the Q&A, he took time to take photos with fans and sign autographs.
It is so nice to see a movie actor who goes out of his way to be nice and meet his fans.
It was a wonderful evening.
Okay, since that happened - I really want to go see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Bill Nighy is playing Davy Jones !

California Split
Drove with a friend out to The Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
They were showing California Split from 1974.
It starred Elliott Gould and George Segal.
Directed by Robert Altman
The highlight of the evening was that George Segal himself was there afterwards to talk about the movie.
It was a very funny and informative talk.
I always enjoyed watching George Segal on the TV show Just Shoot Me . So it was really fun to see one of his movies, and see him in person.
Summer Sound Show
Volunteering at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
It was the Summer Sound Show, presented by the Motion Picture Sound Editors.
They were demonstrating all the latest computer techniques for Dialogue and ADR.
Gee, just last night I was watching films using the very first sound recording device made, The Vitaphone.
And tonight, I am watching the very latest in computer sound techniques.
When you think about it - it only took 80 years to get from the Vitaphone, to the computer programs that the Sound Editors use today.
Amazing.
Don Juan at The Academy
The Academy of Motion Pictures had a wonderful series. It is the 80th Anniversary of the Vitaphone.
The Vitaphone is what first synchronized sound to the film.
They had a screening of Don Juan from 1926.
This was the first movie to use the Vitaphone.
Before that they had some short films from the 20s. Mainly musicians playing, orchestras, and singers.
This was back in the 1920s, so to see a musician on film and hear his music at the same time was really a big deal.
The program for the evening was the exact same program on the night that "Don Juan" premiered.
So that made for an interesting evening with an important tribute to history.
Little Miss Sunshine
I went to a preview screening of Little Miss Sunshine.
If you see one movie this summer (and I hope you see more than that) - but this movie should be the one you see !
It is so funny.
Its been a long time since I have seen a movie where I laughed so hard, I could not stop.
Greg Kinnear and Toni Collette are perfect as the parents.
And Abigail Breslin who plays the daughter on her way to a beauty pageant, is so incredible - she deserves an Oscar nomination.
And she's only 10 years old....
Just a heads up for when you attend those "Preview Screenings":
Leave your cellphone in the car.
Nowhere on my invitation did it say cellphones would not be allowed, and so I forgot about it.
Just as we got to the door, they made me take it back to my car in the parking structure.
My friend was in the theatre saving our seats - but I couldn't find her !
It was stadium seating, and I was running up and down the stairs trying to find her.
Turned out she had gone to the concession stand, and a total stranger was watching our seats for us.
Oh, well - at least I got a work-out before the movie started !
Tiki Night & Elvis !
A fun Tiki Night Luau Party for the Mods and Rockers Series at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
Then it was Elvis Presley in Blue Hawaii from 1961 !!!
Oh, What a Fun movie !
Elvis looked so handsome. Great music, and a fun movie.
Put another CD on my list of soundtracks to get !
