Alien
If I want to watch a scary movie - its always a space alien movie.
I don't like horror, or blood and gore. And if demons and ghosts are in it, I end up sleeping with the lights on for weeks.
But a scary space alien movie is just perfect.
So I volunteered for every night of the "Alien Madness" series at The Aero .
Tonight, The Areo and The Visual Effects Society , were showing the original "Alien" .
I love that movie.
And I forgot that there was a Cat in the movie.
Hmmmm, a space alien movie for cat lovers.
All during the movie, Ripley is running from the Alien.
And I'm thinking "Where's the cat? Is the cat okay?" Cinnamon would definitely approve.
Swingers
Over at the Aero Theatre to volunteer again.
Tonight's movie was Swingers.
With Jon Favreau speaking afterwards.
Believe it or not, after living in Los Angeles all these years - I have never seen the movie Swingers.
I've had so many friends tell me "You have to see it !"
And I really loved it. Very funny.
So I will repeat what many friends have told me:
If you live in Hollywood - you have to see this movie.

Paul Haggis at The Academy
Tonight, Paul Haggis , the Director of "Crash", spoke at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - the Oscars.
I was really surprised to see that the event was not sold out. Considering that he won Oscars two years in a row.
For "Crash" and for "Million Dollar Baby" .
And the event only cost $5. yeah, thats right Five Bucks.
I got a seat in the front row, off to the left side.
The evening was mainly a Q&A on screenwriting, with alot of interesting ideas and points given.
There were film clips of 3 or 4 movies.
It was a great night, and very informative.
The Haircut and Dye
So what to do when you just finish spending $800 on car repairs ?
Head over to the Beauty Salon, and spend some money on your hair.
Actually, I have a good excuse.
While I was out on one my lunch time walks at the office, someone handed me a flyer for a new salon in Hollywood.
Half off your first visit.
Wonderful - or so I thought.
First, at arriving, they made me run to the ATM machine. The credit card machines weren't hooked up yet.
I handed the woman a picture from a catalog. Keep it long. But more layers.
And she did a great job giving me the exact same cut in the picture.
Then I told her, I wanted my medium brown hair, at least 2 shades darker.
A dark brown. No red tones. Get rid of all the grey.
"Ash brown?" she asked.
Yes - perfect.
She put the dye on, then sent me to the back.
She told me 20 minutes.
I counted the songs on the radio, and the commercials.
Hey, its getting past 20 minutes.
I got up and walked to the front of the salon. She was cutting a man's hair.
She said she would be right with me.
It had to be closer to 40 minutes.
I thought "My hair is going to be to dark."
She rinsed out the color, and said "Beautiful color".
Okay, I think.
In the chair, she takes off the towel.
My hair is a copper color.
The color of a penny.
Lighter than my original hair. Not darker.
And definitely red tones.
This is not what I asked for. But what can I do. The color and cut were together both only $40.
But she totally screwed up the color.
As these things always go. You think its going to look better when you see it at home.
And it never does.
Its always worse.
She didn't strip my hair of the original color, or she only did it on top - or something.
I don't think she had the dye properly mixed.
Because my roots are a copper color. The bottom ends of my hair still medium brown but with a copper color over the original color.
Its so screwed up.
Yeah, I thought about making her do it over again for free. But if she already screwed it up once, I really don't ever want her touching my hair ever again.
I call some friends. I figure in a few weeks, I will go to a place my friend recommends. Which will be triple what I paid at this place.
So now, I know. Not all deals are good deals.
And paying half price for something, can actually end up costing you more money in the long run. Here's a pic. The cut is okay. I don't like the color.

Car to the Shop
First, the tow truck guy had to come and get my car out of the underground parking.
The poor guy had to push it all around the lot, over to the other side so he could maneuver it so he could put it on his truck.
He wasn't very happy about that, but he did it. So I gave him a really good tip.
I dropped it off at Sam's Sunset Fuel. They've worked on my car before.
The guy called me about 1 or 2 in the afternoon.
Pretty much everything in my 1995 Chrysler LeBaron, are the original parts.
The belts, the distributor cap, the hoses - I don't know what else.
He said he got the car to run. So he thinks this was the major problem.
Then we discussed my leaking radiator.
He knew my bill was getting high.
"You know you can just keep adding fluid for a few more months, and come back and get it done later."
I said "No, I've been adding fluid for the last year. With summer coming, its time to get a new radiator."
The total bill: around $800.
We put off the Fuel Pump.
Its making a whirring nose. And the car kind of "bubbles" when I am stopped.
So it needs to be replaced. That will be another $300. But I am going to wait for another paycheck for that.

Poseidon
I was very anxious to see Poseidon , since I had just seen the original Poseidon Adventure over at The Aero in Santa Monica a few weeks ago.
So this time I walked from my house, to the Vista at the Sunset Blvd - Hollywood Blvd - Vermont Ave intersection in Los Feliz.
This time I underestimated, and I arrived alittle late.
I figured with whatever previews were screening, I was fine.
Not to mention if I got to the movie - and the ship was still afloat, I was fine too.
I had heard the best part of the movie was the wave and the ship sinking.
I really did enjoy the movie. I thought it was a great Disaster Movie.
Disaster Movies are a genre all to themselves.
Then, there were the people who were behind me.
They seemed to laugh hysterically out loud every time something disastrous happened on the screen.
It was obvious that they did not come to enjoy a disaster film - but to laugh AT a movie they expected to be bad.
It was getting annoying.
But the theatre was completely full, and I didn't want to try to move.
Then there also seemed to be alot of big "animation and special effects" people in the audience.
They loved it every time something spectacular happened.
And they stayed for the credits - along with me - and applauded when all the special effects people were listed.
That was really fun.
