Books, Walking and Movie
First, I walked around the Los Angeles Times, Festival of Books , on the UCLA Campus.
I was very good, and did not buy a single book. I will stick to the LA Public Library for my
reading materials.
The only thing I bought there was my lunch of a turkey sandwich, and a frozen lemonade.
But I did manage to get in about 2 hours of walking, which I was really happy about.
Oh, yeah - and the parking was the most expensive thing. $8 to park, so I could walk around and take pictures.
After my afternoon there, I headed over to the Aero Theatre to volunteer.
Tonights film was Orphee , a 1949 French film by Jean Cocteau.
Yes, the special effects were way ahead of their time. I just wish there had been more of them.
But back in 1949, they weren't into making huge blockbusters. So you just have to appreciate the few effects that were in this.
And a very strange story line about the Angel of Death and a Poet, who fall in love.
Last Remaining Seats
The Los Angeles Conservancy's Last Remaining Seats is happening May 31 to July 5.
You'll get to see all these outstanding classic films, in the beautiful old theatres of Downtown Los Angeles.
The ticket price helps fund the Conservancy, so in addition to seeing great movies, you'll be helping a worthy cause.

Straight Into Darkness
I ran over to the Aero Theatre again tonight to do some more volunteering.
The screening was Straight Into Darkness .
It was free to members of the American Cinematheque.
I really liked this movie. Its a movie that takes place during war. But there a lot of deeper things going on in the film. Situations with children caught up in war. The deeper feelings and thoughts of the soldiers.
It was a very thought-provoking movie.
The Usual Suspects
More volunteer work for me at the Aero Theatre .
Tonights film, was The Usual Suspects .
Kevin Pollak spoke after the film.
And both Kevin Spacey and Benicio del Toro are two of my favorite actors.

Avon New Clinical Eyelift 
After seeing the ads on the TV, I had to ask the woman-at-work-whose-daughter-sells-Avon.
She brought me a catalog and I bought a jar of the Clinical Eyelift .
I mean, it makes sense. You want to firm the upper lids, while getting rid of lines and puffiness on the bottom. So you need two different creams.
But at $28 a jar, I about died when I had to write the check to the Avon Lady.
But I do like it and it seems to be working. I'm noticing a difference.

The screening tonight at the Aero was The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms .
Both Ray Bradberry and Ray Harryhausen were scheduled to speak.
I was Volunteer Captain again for the evening, and did not get to see the movie. I only caught a few sentences of the Question and Answer session.
Because of the popularity of the event, it was a very busy and crazy night.
