The Car
Okay, of course - I am almost ready to have surgery - and the car starts acting up. Murphy's Law !
I have to admit its my own fault. The breaks have needed maintenance for months, and I kept putting it off. Well, now they are gone.
I mean, I hit the breaks and its grinding and crunching - and I can pretty much feel there is nothing there.
So I look on the bright side. Without a car - I will be forced to stay home, rest and get better after surgery.
The car will sit in my parking spot for two weeks, while I lay on the couch and in bed reading novels and letting my stitches heal.
If I had a car, I would be out buzzing around Hollywood, catching matinee and who knows what else.
Its actually good that I have no transportation right now, so I am forced to rest.
Payday - and Treats
It was Payday - and more stocking up for my Big Day of surgery. Only this time it was Fun Stocking Up.
First stop was Big Lots . I wanted to find a set of cheap Pots & Pans. I've been doing alot of cooking lately. And I wanted to make sure I have what I need if I end up staying home for a few weeks.
Of course, if you go to Big Lots for one thing ... you end up coming out with a whole bunch of things.
As I went down the aisle, I saw a display of socks. Then, I turned around and saw and entire section of gorgeous bras. Red bras, Pink bras,Purple bras... lacey pretty bras. They were the fashion line by Delta Burke . And they were in my size !
And they were only about 5 bucks each !
Wow, I bought about five bras.
When I got home, I wrapped them in a bag, and put them in a drawer. They will be a gift to myself after the lumpectomy is done, and I am healed from the surgery.
A way to celebrate going through and surviving the surgery for Breast Cancer.
I got on line, and I looked all over for more Delta Burke Bras - and I could not find any along the line of what I had bought. I had thought she would have a website about her clothing, but I can't find it. If you know where I can find more of her items, please let me know.
Then, of course, while I was at Big Lots I bought more stuff. They had
Calgon Shower Gel and Body Lotion on Sale, so I bought some
of that. I like Hawaiian Ginger and Moon Petal Musk.
And .. before I left, yes I did buy a set of Pots and Pans. A six piece set for $10 . I doubt it will last longer than my recovery time. But at at least now I know I have plenty around the house. The cool thing about the set was that the lids had holes - for releasing the steam and for draining the water. I would like to find a nicer set with the same type of lids, its very convenient.
After my Shopping Spree at Big Lots, I headed over to Whole Foods on 3rd Street. I needed to stock up on the basics, chicken, rice, bread, eggs ... you know, stuff to get me through breakfast, lunch and dinner while I am sitting at home after surgery.
But I guess I was in the mood for shopping because I ran into Kmart .
Don't think I've been in there before. The store was really nice and big, and had plenty of a selection. Right away I saw I purse I liked for only $10, and a couple of blouses. I still escaped from there with very little damage to my bank account since its so cheap.
Then I finally got to Whole Foods for the grocery shopping I had originally set out to do.
My New Purse
Pre-Op Tests
I have run out of sick days at the office. And will be using up most of my vacation time, and personal days for the surgery.
But I took one more vacation day today to go get all the Pre-Op Tests done.
First, I went to the Breast Surgeons office and filled out the Consent form. And they gave me all the instructions for what I am now fondly referring to as "The Big Day" - my day for surgery.
I then went to Glendale Memorial to get all my Pre-Op tests done.
First I filled out forms, and they gave me a hospital wristband. Then I waited in a room for a technician to come and give me my tests.
I was very reassured when she took my hand, and actually looked at my wrist band to see my name and make sure she had the right patient.
Then what followed was a game of 50 questions. Every medical thing I have been through since the day I was born.
One Kidney out as a child at 9 years old. Nose bleed that resulted in a seizure 8 years ago. History of Family skin cancer. Pre-skin cancer mole removed from tummy 10 years ago. Mother died of skin cancer. No breast cancer in family.
Oh, yeah ... hypoglycemic, ringing in right ear, questionable things on brain MRI that the doctors never figured out.
And a hole bunch of other stuff that I have forgotten, but she managed to jar from the deep recesses of my memory for her purposes.
Then a blood test ... and she was very good. Even with my small veins, she only poked me once, and got what she needed.
And then, a Resting EKG to test my heart.
Then ... down to my favorite place, the Radiology Dept for a Chest X-ray. The technician was actually the person who did my CT Scan, so we had a nice chat, as we both remembered eachother from last time.
That was it, and it was over. I almost stopped off at the Cafeteria to get a bite.
The selections of the day were : Chili Dog, Meat Loaf or Macaroni and Cheese.
The Glendale Memorial Hospital Cafeteria seems stuck in the 1950s .
When I went in and looked at the hot plates, the food was so over-cooked and dried up, I just left a decided to wait until dinner to eat.
I met my Stephen Minister in Los Feliz at Home Restaurant for dinner.
We sat outside in the nice warm weather.
I got a Chinese Chicken Salad, and she got the Meat Loaf - a healthy gourmet version of meat loaf.
Both were really good.
And the topic of conversation .... Hospitals.
Stocking Up
What do you do when you are single, and have surgery coming up ?
Go to Target ... and purchase large amounts of heavy items that you don't want to have to carry up the stairs after surgery.
Cat Litter, Bottled Water, Cat Food, Large Toilet Paper.
I am now set for an entire month.
